Mark Sunderland

CPA • OWNER

With more than 25 years of accounting experience, including respected positions with Ernst & Young and Merrill Lynch, firm president and founder Mark R. Sunderland is a hands-on authority on comprehensive business planning, tax planning and preparation, accounting system set-up and training, financial documentation, and technology systems training and implementation. He and his tech-savvy team specialize in the unique needs of small businesses, providing expert guidance and counsel on the surest track to financial safety, strength and growth. We keep you ahead of the curve all year round, preventing inaccuracies, tax surprises and penalties, late filings and hidden costs. We quote our fees up front, without strings or gimmicks, and provide shrewd and aggressive support to help you time every financial move perfectly. Mark enjoys everything the Colorado outdoors offer, particularly cycling, hiking, and camping in the mountains. He loves spending time with his wife Pam, boys Tyler & Ryan, and their dog Wrigley.

Jon Gemme

SENIOR ACCOUNTING & TAX MANAGER & PARTNER

Jon joined The Sunderland Group in May of 2014 after moving to Boulder from Cape Cod, Massachusetts. As our Senior Accounting & Tax Manager, he is responsible for managing our bookkeeping and accounting team, and provides QuickBooks consulting, tax preparation & planning services, and business consulting services to our small business clients. Jon concluded his studies at the University of New Hampshire after receiving a B.S. in Accounting in 2009 as well as an M.S. in Accounting in 2010. After college, he began work with an accounting firm near his hometown on Cape Cod where he remained working until his move to Boulder. When away from the office, Jon enjoys traveling, playing music, and participating in a wide range of outdoor activities, particularly hiking in the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Colorado. He is also an avid Boston sports fan (but we won’t hold that against him).

Cora Solem

OFFICE MANAGER

Cora joined The Sunderland Group in November 2012. She is the Office Manager and assists with tax preparation, bookkeeping and QuickBooks consulting. Cora has earned a B.S. degree in Computer Science from CSU. She worked in a development environment as a Software Engineer for ten years. Most recently, Cora has spent the past seven years working as the office manager in the Tax and Financial Planning industry, which had her involved in all aspects of the business. Cora is married and has two kids. She loves spending time with her family. Her interests include hiking, jogging, and gardening.

Larry K. Parker II

STAFF ACCOUNTANT

Larry joined The Sunderland Group in September of 2021 as a member of the Accounting department. He works to assist clients in every aspect of both accounting and bookkeeping. Larry is currently working towards his B.S. degree in Accounting from CSU. Before switching careers to the accounting field, Larry spent 5 years working for a financial institution that ended with him managing a business unit for a major bank. Before that he spent over 20 years managing retail units for big box retailers. During his spare time, you can often find Larry riding his Harley through the mountains. When it gets cold, he will often pull out his bass guitar and work on a tune or two.

Amirta Nand Kumar

OPERATIONS MANAGER

Amirta joined The Sunderland Group in January of 2022 as our Operations Manager.  She is originally from South Germany and has spent fifteen years in the financial services industry, first as a Bank Operations & Mitigation Specialist, and then as an Executive Assistant for a Financial Advisor. When she is not in the office, she can be found cross-stitching, gardening, practicing yoga, going on hikes, and spending time with her boyfriend, James, and mini dachshund, Toby. 

Lainey Nabhan

STAFF ACCOUNTANT

Lainey joined The Sunderland Group in January of 2023. She moved from Winter Park to Boulder to attend the University of Colorado where she completed her Bachelor of Business in Accounting and a minor degree in Arabic Language. Lainey has worked with clients from all over the country in many industries as a bookkeeper and is excited to advance her career in the role of Staff Accountant.

In Lainey’s free time, she loves to ski at Winter Park Resort and lift weights in the gym whenever she can. She has a puppy named Ruby and a cat named Squishy. If you can’t find her on the slopes or in the gym, you can find her walking her pets around Boulder.

Matt Eidson

ACCOUNTING AND STAFF MANAGER

Matt Joined The Sunderland Group in August of 2023. Originally from Arlington, Texas, he earned his Bachelor’s in Accounting from the University of Texas at Dallas, and his Juris Doctor from the University of Oklahoma College of Law. He began his career in public accounting in Oklahoma City, and most recently worked with the Community Foundation Boulder County during the Marshall Fire disaster response. Matt is an avid learner, and while he currently enjoys gardening and barbecue, his favorite hobby is learning new hobbies.

Christine Stolt

STAFF ACCOUNTANT

Christine joined The Sunderland Group in April 2023 as a member of the Accounting team. She earned a Bachelor degree in Computer Science from the University of Colorado and worked as a Software Engineer for many years. Christine has also been a business owner in the property management industry. She enjoyed the financial side of the business and decided to transition into accounting.

Christine loves spending time with her family and friends, walking her dog, cooking, camping, doing puzzles, and listening to music.

Blaine Birney

TAX PREPARER

In August 2023, Blaine became a member of The Sunderland Group, following a five-year tenure as a tax preparer at Jackson Hewitt. During his time at Jackson Hewitt, Blaine progressively climbed the corporate ladder, ultimately achieving the position of tax manager/supervisor, where he supervised operations across five office locations.

Blaine earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from the University of Northern Colorado. Currently, he is actively pursuing certification as an Enrolled Agent to further his expertise in taxation.

Hailing from Colorado, Blaine's life has been intertwined with sports, particularly baseball, from an early age. He was given the opportunity to pursue a professional baseball career after high school, though he ultimately declined, and his decision was reinforced by a career-ending injury that followed shortly thereafter. Despite this setback, Blaine views it as a hidden blessing and remains engaged in sports, either through playing or coaching in his free time.

Outside of his professional and athletic pursuits, Blaine finds joy in spending quality time with his wife, two sons, and their three dogs.

Pam Sunderland

Pam is a local owner and sales consultant with Payroll Vault.  She was a 30+ year veteran in the CPG industry servicing a wide range of large and small clients.  She understands the importance of customer service and personalized solutions to meet the needs of her clients.  She can work with you to develop a custom Payroll Vault package to meet your specific needs, and the needs of your employees.
